CITTC and European Union Host Informative Seminar on
On January 23rd the China International Technology Transfer Center (CITTC) and the European Union Member and Associated States jointly hosted a Public Information Event for the purpose of publicizing collaboration opportunities within the EU’s recently launched Horizon 2020 program. Over 100 people attended, representing Chinese research institutes, universities, businesses, and government, including organizations such as Haier Group and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Philippe Vialatte, Head of Science, Technology and Environment, and representatives from 10 European embassies, including France, Austria, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic, presented detailed information about cooperation possibilities. Noting the importance of the EU to China’s development, Mr. Cao Gang, Deputy Director of the Hi-Tech Industrialization department of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, lauded the gathering and encouraged substantive exchanges between all sides. Horizon 2020 is the EU's largest ever research and innovation framework programme with a seven year budget worth nearly €80 billion. Horizon 2020 is fully open to international participation and Chinese researchers, enterprises and institutions are strongly urged to apply. In the 2014 request for proposals, several topics are flagged for cooperation with China: Food, Agriculture, Biotech; ICT; and Energy.
